Funerals

Islam teaches us specific methods by which to deal with the passing of our fellow human beings.

There are rules by which we have to conduct appropriate prayers, preparation and burial.

Bereaved families are not always familiar with the spiritual and legal requirements around bereavement.

At the Bolton Council of Mosques we have established a fully supported burial service for the Muslim community that meets both these requirements.

Safeguarding Children

Every child who attends Madrassa should be able to learn in a safe and healthy environment.

We have adopted the Every Child Matters in Madrassa approach set out by the government to ensure the well-being of children and young people.

We are committed to supporting our Mosques and Madrasas in making changes to safeguard the children in their care.

To meet the Every Child Matters framework they must:

Develop a Charter for Madrasas and Mosques to sign up to

Ensure all staff and volunteers have had a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

First Aid Training for teachers and committee members

Child Protection - Train the Trainers training

Develop an “Every Child Matters in Madrasa Safeguarding Manual”

This is in order to make sure children:

  • Be healthy
  • Stay safe
  • Enjoy and achieve
  • Make a positive contribution
  • Achieve economic well-being

DBS Checks

DBS

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) is a Non Public body helping the employers make safer recruitment decisions and prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable Children and Adults. If you are recruiting paid staff or volunteers to work with children under 18 years of age, you will need to obtain a DBS certificate for them.

BCoM is approved by the Disclosure and Barring Services to process the DBS checks for any registered organisation. Most of the DBS checks that we carry out come through our Mosques and Madrasas. We are an authorised signatory body for DBS Applications.

Our charges are: -

  1. Volunteer £15 per application
  2. Paid staff £55

DBS Application forms can be collected from the office and thereafter an appointment will need to be made for our staff to check over the form and send off on your behalf. For any more clarification please contact our office number 01204 363680 or email us on [email protected]
